Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver announce separation. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Wife Separated. Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and wife Maria Shriver announced on Monday that they had parted. Shriver Schwarzenegger has assisted in the Big Dipper for 25-year marriage. A spokesman for Schwarzenegger said both will continue to maintain their relationship by living separate and will continue to be parents to their four children.

Schwarzenegger, a Republican, ended a seven-year tenure as governor in January and has been traveling to a series of speeches and pursue various entertainment projects. During Schwarzenegger became governor, Shriver and their children never moved to Sacramento. They chose to live in a remote canyon area of Los Angeles, a few miles from the Pacific Ocean.

Shriver, a member of the Kennedy dynasty and the daughter of the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, left his job as a journalist for NBC when Schwarzenegger has been governor. As an officer's wife, she held an annual women's conference which attracted a long list of business figures, politics and entertainment, as well as thousands of people.

Farewell announcement comes several months after the death of Shriver's father, former vice presidential candidate Sargent Shriver, in January. Schwarzenegger's spokesman, Daniel Ketchell, said he would not answer questions outside of this statement.
